Lies homeschooling moms believe ebook

My kids never loved nature walks or begged for science experiments. I forced them to go on most of our field trips and we stopped doing crafts when it got too stressful. Other homeschool moms do NOT have it all together. Our kids hate math, we argue about writing lessons, and behind our recent IG post is a huge pile of dirty of laundry. What other lies that homeschooling moms believe have you found yourself listening to?

Boynton, would often substitute when a teacher was out. She was much nicer than that mean old substitute, Mrs. Host Mike Rowe, with his quick, dry wit, is the good-natured trainee for all sorts of jobs guaranteed to gross out or freak out and, most definitely, get him and his temporary co-workers filthy…. I have now officially schooled every age and grade from birth through graduation.

That sometimes we have to turn to Google to jog our memory on what exactly the Pythagorean Theory is…. It is an exciting season after the mom-intensive preschool and elementary years. Your email address will not be published.

I'm feeling burned out, so I decided to reread it. I really liked the first part of the book that had the lies and some of the truth statements.

However, I had a problem when I got to the middle of the book. He has this section about being real. Well, you can't always be real with homeschooling moms. Then he contradicts himself in the sections that follow about the truth. He tells moms that if they are good at some I read this book several years back with our homeschool group and really liked it.

He tells moms that if they are good at something, they should just keep it to themselves so as not to perpetuate the lies that homeschooling moms believe, and he says it in several places.

How is that being real? Are we just supposed to go around and share our struggles. I, for one, like to hear about other people's successes. Then I know that I can go to that person if I'm struggling in that area to get advice, and maybe some help. Another thing that bothered me is that he said in his truth about God giving your children the exact mom they need, that there is nobody better than you that can teach your child.

That is a lie. Every family needs to pray about the right decision for education in their family. Sometimes, there are seasons, or even whole periods of education, where certain children should go to school. No sense in making moms feel bad for their decision to send their children to school if that is what God is leading them to do. I also just need to add that he really needs an editor. Now I'm not perfect at grammar or writing, and I don't usually point these things out.

However, there were lots of mistakes all through this book. This isn't a Facebook post or blog post; it's a published book that people are paying money for. At least take the time to go through it and fix the mistakes or most of them. Jan 31, Zacksmom Okon rated it it was amazing. Tears poured while I read this book. You are a great mom and teacher! Don't let anyone tell you different!

Aug 06, Callie rated it it was amazing Shelves: read-in What a great little book! I picked this one up after hearing the speaker at a homeschool conference. His conversational tone makes this book a lot of fun to read, and his points were all excellent. I have found myself believing and voicing a lot of these lies myself in my first year homeschooling, and his encouragements and countering truths were so needed!

I definitely recommend for homeschooling moms everywhere. Bonus points for being a quick easy read since it's hard to find hours of persona What a great little book! Bonus points for being a quick easy read since it's hard to find hours of personal reading time during the school year. I borrowed this from a friend, and it was a great encouragement to me. So much truth in this little book! Do you believe the lie that other homeschooling famil I borrowed this from a friend, and it was a great encouragement to me. Do you believe the lie that other homeschooling families are more spiritual than yours? Todd dispels the myths we easily deceive ourselves into believing and replaces them with truth: God gave your children the mom HE knew they needed, and your children will become exactly what God intends for them to be!

His candid, anecdotal style is so endearing. You know what my kids would answer if you were to ask my kids what they play? We might even determine that they are going to play an instrument even if it kills them. So we purchase a stringed instrument because everyone knows a stringed instrument is more spiritual than say a We actually believe our children will be better or more pleasing to God if they play a certain instrument or dress a certain way.

And I am not against children playing instruments: our daughter plays an instrument! We have taken on a lot of extra things recently, and reflecting upon this book has caused me to evaluate our activities and relieve some unnecessary stressors. I also enjoyed the story Todd shared about his family being on vacation.

Everyone was tired, grumpy, etc. Looking at the picture, one would assume they are the perfect family, but they were in the midst of utter discord. Definitely puts things in perspective. Such a convicting, yet encouraging read! She thought it was wrong of Todd to tell us not to boast of our accomplishments around others because she feels we need to know areas where others are successful so that we can seek help in those areas from those moms.

Todd advised against gushing of our accomplishments around other homeschooling families because this only serves to reinforce our inadequacies. If others are successful in areas, it will naturally shine through, and that alone will prompt us to seek out tips from those individuals.

Todd realizes we homeschooling moms sometimes doubt our abilities to homeschool because we feel inferior, because even our own families and friends sometimes question how equipped we are for the task of educating our children, and because the media tends to focus on negative situations in homeschooling rather than accentuating its benefits and success stories. This was one of his first books, and he had quit pastoring to travel around in his RV full of eight kids to minister to homeschooling families, because he knew moms like YOU need encouragement.

God knew my strengths as well as my weaknesses and in spite of — or because of — that, He gave my children to me. God knew what He was going when He gave my children to me. Just as an apple seed grows into an apple tree and a peach seed grows into a peach tree, my children will grow into the adults God has purposed them to be. A friend and I have discussed this very truth on a couple of occasions.

No exceptions. I was shocked to realize that I sometimes I do that. I was shocked to have to admit that, buried somewhere in the darker part of me, there is that person who sometimes looks for someone who is worse than me. There is really no better or worse. Just different. It comes complete with a study guide for homeschool groups, making it a unique discussion activity for a support group meeting.

I purchased this book myself. The first thing to remember, though, is that there is no one perfect curriculum, there is only the best…. Greetings, friends of Latin. When I first bought it, I was only officially schooling Brianna. We got about halfway through the book, then put it on the shelf for awhile.

There was…. I love the cooler weather and the beautiful colors. I love seeing that my God loved us enough to paint a beautiful canvas of vibrant colors for us to enjoy. Sounds like a good read with lots to think about. My girlfriend and I were just discussing this yesterday, how God can work in our children in spite of our failings. Their salvation does not depend on whether we get it right. I thought about reading this book recently and now i know that i will check it out at my next library visit.
